Held in March 2019, the conference was coordinated in conjunction with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County, Inc. and was cosponsored by the Office of Professional Development Services’ School of Education at Hofstra University. It featured presentations and workshops given to more than 100 attendees. The keynote presentation, “Nourishing the Brain, the Building Blocks for Life Long Success,” was presented by Herman Davidovicz, PhD, a pediatric neuropsychologist at the Center for Brain and Behavior at Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Davidovicz spoke about the changing needs and services for children with autism and people with schizophrenia. He also presented a workshop entitled “The Nature and Course of Learning Disorders and Difficulties in School Performance.”
Christine Brown, MD, Chief Medical Officer of CEC, presented the workshop “Protecting and Strengthening the Brain as we Age.” Other presenters included CEC Board Member Stefania Medvedik, RD, RN, CDE, CDN who presented the workshop “Nutrition and Brain Health: Anti-Inflammatory Eating for a Healthy Body and Mind” and CEC Social Work Clinical Supervisor Andrea Gray-Pincus, LCSW-R who presented the workshop “Anxiety and the Brain: Clinical Applications for Quieting the Busy Brain.”
